There are several types of scholarships and types of tuition assistance that you can receive as a Cadet. There are Two, Three, and Four-year ROTC Scholarships available that provide either full tuition or up to $10,000 for room and board. Additionally, cadets will receive other monthly stipends that help offset the other costs.
Eligibility
You must:
- Be a U.S. citizen; no dual citizenship
- Be at least 17 years old before the scholarship is effective
- Be under 31 years old on June 30 of the year you expect to graduate and receive your officer’s commission.
- Be a high school graduate or have equivalent credit
- Pursuing an academic major at a four-year institution or at a junior college with the intention to transfer to a four-year institution
- Agree to accept a commission as an officer in the Army, Army Reserve, or the Army National Guard
- Meet required physical standards
Army ROTC Scholarships
Each Army ROTC scholarship includes either up to full tuition or up to $10,000 for room and board, plus $3,000 – $5,000 yearly depending on the year enrolled, as well as $1200 a year for books allowances. Stipends are paid bi-monthly while you are in school and increase in value depending on Military Science level.
Campus-Based Scholarship
This is a competitive 2 years, 3 years, or 4 years scholarship awarded to incoming and current students who meet the above qualifications as well as having good academic standing. This scholarship is open to first semester juniors or below to include high school seniors.
If you are sophomore who has just heard about ROTC and is interested in getting in on the action or a veteran who is interested in returning to the force as an officer: The Two Year Campus- Based Scholarship is for you. You are eligible if you have two full years remaining in your undergrad or graduate degree, and have at least a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale in your previous college work. You will attend the Leader’s Training Course (LTC); a twenty-eight day program at Ft. Knox, KY. The purpose of the Leader’s Training Course is to provide instruction in the basic leadership and technical skills that will prepare you for your junior and senior years of ROTC. If you are a prior service veteran, your previous military experience (i.e. basic training) qualifies you to enter without the first two years of ROTC or attending LTC.
With the Campus-Based Scholarship, cadets are eligible to compete for limited active duty officer positions in the US Army depending on your ranking based on academic GPA, military courses GPA, physical fitness, and performance at the Leader Development and Assessment Course. However, the cadets also have the option to join the Army Reserve or the Army National Guard if they so choose.
Fully Funded Medical and Law Degree: If you want to go to medical or law school right after graduation, there are, in addition, a number of programs which will pay for your graduate degree.
Dedicated National Guard Scholarship
A Dedicated Guard Scholarship is a 2 or 3 year scholarship for cadets who plan on joining the Army National Guard after receiving his/her commission upon graduation. The California Army National Guard requires that you enroll in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). As a SMP cadet, you will train with the unit of your choice for one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer while simultaneously going to school and being a part of The Golden Bear Battalion. SMP cadets will not only receive a salary of $4,756 a year for their service, but also valuable leadership experience working in real military situations.
Upon completion of the commissioning process, National Guard officers are eligible to receive a $10,000 accession bonus.
Guaranteed Reserve Forces Duty (GRFD) Scholarship
The GRFD is a two years scholarship ideal for cadets who are either planning on commissioning in either the Army Reserve or the Army National Guard. Financially, the GRFD and the Dedicated Guard Scholarship only differs in that the GRFD authorize the cadets the use of their reserve Montgomery G.I. Bill, if they went to basic training and advance initial training.
Army Focused Language List (FLL) Scholarship
The Army has identified a need for future Army officers to be proficient in a particular set of languages, referred to as the Focused Language List (FLL). In order to meet this need Cadet Command will provide scholarships for Cadets attending accredited programs with majors on the FLL list.

Critical Language Incentive Pay (CLIP)
CLIP provides Professors of Military Science (PMS) an additional tool to bring qualified students willing to study critical languages into the ROTC program as contracted Cadets.
- $100 per month for a freshmen level course
- $150 per month for a sophomore level course
- $200 per month for a junior level course
- $250 per month for a senior level course
